Unit 1: My Weekends are Always Busy
My usual weekends are busy with work. I usually go to work all day. I have work four days a week, so of course I have to work on the weekends. I always get up late and eat an easy breakfast. I always work from 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. After work, I often go out for dinner with my mother and talk a lot with her. My mother has a night job, so Sunday night is a only time we can talk. Last weekend was special. I went to Wakura spa in Ishikawa with my friend. I drove a car on the highway for the first time. It was little scary but exciting!! On the way to Wakura spa, we went to the tulip festival in Tonami. It was so beautiful!! Next weekend is going to be very busy. I have my part time job as usual. Since next weekend is Golden Week, lots of customers will come. It will be a busy day, and it is going to be challenging for me.
Unit 2: My Friend, Miho
Miho Nakajima is a friend from high school, and she is also my best friend. I consider her an old friend. She is very cute and is about 155 cm tall. Her eyes are brown and have long eyelashes. Her hair is curly and dark brown. She is like a doll. I love her. Miho has a great personality. She is a good listener, so I can talk about everything to her. She has a lovely smile, and it makes other people smile. She always cheers me up. She is a very serious person because she works hard even if a job is difficult. I respect her . Miho has many hobbies. She likes driving at night. Her car is a dark blue Toyota bB. The car is usually liked by men, but she and the car match very well. She has a another hobby: music. She always listens to music at home and in her car. She loves western musicians such as Avril Lavigne, so I often borrow CDs from her.
Miho sometimes talks about her future. She has a cool dream. She is working at Favore as a reception clerk now. But the truth is that she wants to run her own ehtnic clothes shop someday. so now, she is studying hard about clothes. I know that she will have a wonderful life because she works hard of everything and her personality is lovely. Also, she will have a lot of fun in the future, too.
Unit3 friendly message
Dear Anna,
How are you? I am thinking of you today. I am sitting at a table of the coffee shop and looking out the window. It is windy in Toyama. Outside, there are a few people on the street. All of them are carrying umbrellas. I don’t like such windy weather because much dust goes up in the air. Because of this, I had a bad luck today.
After my work, my coworker Mai and I were walking to a restaurant to eat dinner. On the way to the restaurant, wind was still strong. Before we arrive there, we stood watching for the signal to change to green.Then suddenly, a news paper that was thrown away by someone was hit on my face. First, I couldn’t understand what happened for me. My friend Mai said ” Are you ok? Your face is duty now.” I was really embarrassed. Then, Mai looked into her backpack and took out her handkerchief. She gave it to me, the handkerchief was new one and very cute though. I was happy to be clean my face. After the accident, we went for the dinner and ate a lots of food. We also talked a lot. It was a good day for me because I could realize for Mai’s kindness again. I love be with Mai. She is really wonderful friend.

unit5 Aiko’s First Job at Japanese restaurant
Today was Aiko’s first day at her part time job. She woke up as usual and ate breakfast. She thought about the day and about the Japanese restaurant. She was really nervous.
At 9:00, after breakfast, Aiko took a shower and got dressed in her new uniform. It suited her. When her mom saw her, she said, ” Good morning. You look professional.” Aiko answered, “ Yes. I’ll do my best!” At 10:30, her mom drove her to the restaurant. When she arrived, Mr. Hatano, the owner of this restaurant, told her that today was a weekend, so many customers would come. Hearing that, Aiko’s tension became really high. At 12:00, a customer came in and ordered many items of food. As Aiko began to work, she did well and her confidence began to fly high. Then suddenly, an accident happened. When she brought a meal to a customer, she dropped it on him! Aiko was so shocked she didn’t realize what happened. Her coworker called the owner suddenly and he apologized for her mistake. Fortunately, the customer was very kind and didn’t get angry. After the accident, the owner told Aiko, ” You made a mistake. This is a bad thing. But you should learn from this experience and work harder to be good waitress. Good luck!”
Aiko’s first day of work was very hard. She leaned a lot from her job and could realize that her coworkers and owner were really nice. After the day, she decided to continue working at this restaurant in the future.
Unit7: Junior High School Table Tennis Club
Playing table tennis has really changed my life. When I entered junior high school, I had to join a club activity. I
was interested in many things such as sports, music, and English, but I couldn’t start them because I was very nervous. I lacked self-confidence. Finally, I was able to join the table tennis club, and my life was never the same.I never knew that my life before table tennis would have some similarities and differences to my life after it.
Before table tennis, I used to be shy, nervous, and introverted. At school, I didn’t speak a lot. I talked only to a few friends. On weekends, I used to spend a lot of time at home. I liked to watch movies on DVD and bake cakes. However, I always did these activities alone, so I didn’t talk about the movies to my friends and never brought them any cake at school. I was so shy before I began the table tennis club.
When I started playing table tennis, many parts of my life changed. For example, I did a lot of things with my club members. Running around school, doing exercises before practice,and so on. To keep doing these things every day, I became accustomed to the atmosphere of our club little by little. Before I started table tennis, I had no special skills, but I could concentrate, and of course play table tennis. The biggest change was in my daily schedule. Because of table tennis, I had to go to school every day, even on weekends, so I had no free time.
Thus, many things changed but some stayed the same. Then, I went to my first table tennis match, I was really shy so I couldn’t talk with other school students as my club members could do. So, I was alone at first. Suddenly, at lunch time, one girl from another school talked to me and asked me some questions. I was confused. But finally, I tried to talk with her. This exchange made me my confidence grow. Since then, I have been able to talk with people, even if the person is a stranger. Thanks to table tennis, I could change so much for the better. Now, I can really enjoy my school days. Table tennis changed my life in so many wonderful ways.
Unit 9 Will Smith
My hero is Will Smith. Last year, I watched his famous movie called, “The Pursuit of Happiness”. It was really impressive to me, and my heart became warm. He is my model for being happy, having a loving family, and a strong mind.
Will Smith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1968 to Caroline and Willard Christopher Smith. Smith’s charming and sly demeanor in school resulted in the nickname “Prince”. When he was 12, he began rapping and developing his own style. In 1987, he came out as a hip hop MC and released his first album called, “Rock The House”. This was the first time for him to appear on TV. After that, in 1990, he appeared on TV show,”The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” The show was successful and launched his acting career. This show continued for 6 years. Then, he set himself the goal of becoming “the biggest movie star in the world”. In 1992, he came out in a movie called “Heart Break Down”, and that year he married Sheree Zampino. They had a son, Willard Chiristopher Ⅱ, or Trey. However, they divorced in 1995. He remarried Jada Pinkett in 1997 and had two children, with her Jaden Christopher Syre and Willow Camille Reign. From 1992 until now, he has appeared in many famous movies as a star, such as Men in Black, Enemy of the State, Ali, I Robot, and Pursuit of Happiness. Recently, his son and daughter have also appeared in his movies. When Hurricane Katrina attacked America in August 2005, he donated a large amount of money to assist the victims. In 2008, he was listed in Fortune Magazine’s “Richest 40″. This is a list of the forty wealthiest Americans under the age of 40. He accessed as a musician and movie star. His most recent movie was “Seven Pounds”. In 2010, he will also star in three movies: Monster Hunter, Pursuit, and a Karate Kid re-mark. His busy days will still continue.
Will Smith’s life is busy and fantastic. When I learned about his career, I understood him more than before. His thoughts and feelings sounds like mine. I respect him because he is really busy, but he doesn’t forget about his family. To see him, I have realized that to live own life honestly is very important if I want to live my life happily. I now know that I should live every day as best as I can, like Will Smith has.
